After-School Enrichment Classes
The following classes are held after school at Valencia Elementary School. Classes are open to the public. For further information call 454-7941.
Simple
Machines
Students will explore simple machines (e.g., levers, axles, pulleys, pneumatics) and motorized mechanisms by constructing various models with LEGO materials. We’ll explore engineering concepts and practice problem-solving skills while learning about the scientific method. Different curriculum each session. *A $40 materials fee is due to the instructor on the first day of class. **Class will not be held 4/6.

Brian and Shelly Laschkewitsch: Brian has over 32 years of
experience in high-tech technology companies. He has developed
curriculum for over 10 years and taught technology related subjects
for over 5 years. Shelly teaches technology locally to grades
K-12, and has developed curriculum for over 10 years.

Polymers
& Chemical Reactions
Science can be a load of fun! Enjoy these engaging, hands-on science experiments covering the mushy world of polymers and other fun-filled chemical reactions. Each student will have their own science equipment for experiments and will take home some experiments to observe. *A $30 materials fee is due to the instructor on the first day of class.

Phyllis Endicott is a popular, local science instructor and chef with
experience teaching many after school enrichment classes including
GATE programs. Class assistants: Michael Callahan has been assisting
Phyllis in her classes since 1995. Stephanie Heichel is pursuing
her teaching credential.

Information:
Class
Dates & Start Times: Unless you are notified otherwise, all
classes will be held during the times and on the dates listed in this
brochure. It may occasionally be necessary to change the time and/or
date of a class due to school scheduling, instructor illness, or some
other unforeseen circumstance. In the case a class time or date
must be changed, the instructor will contact you AT LEAST ONE WEEK in
advance to notify you.
Class
Cancellation: If a sudden emergency requires a class be cancelled,
Parks staff will notify the school, and will call parents at the
number listed in their registration information. (please be sure to
provide at least one emergency contact phone number, in addition to a
work and/or cell phone number) Parks staff will go to the class
location to ensure children are supervised until a parent or emergency
contact person can arrive to pick them up.
Sibling
Discount: Each sibling enrolled in same class receives a 15% discount.
To receive the sibling discount, one must register via phone, fax, or
mail (not available online).
ACE &
KE Discount: There is a 10% discount on classes if your child is also
enrolled in the ACE or KE program. To receive this discount, you must
register via phone, fax, or mail (not available online).
Class
Location Listed as TBA If the class location is listed as TBA,
you will be notified of the location prior to the first class meeting
date via email, phone call, and/or a note mailed to the address
indicated on your registration information.
