After-School Enrichment Classes
The following classes are held after school at Simpkins Family Swim Center Community Room. Classes for Adults & Children are open to the public. For further information call 454-7941.
This
workshop provides the opportunity for children to gain experience in
the fundamentals of drawing, composition and painting, using charcoal,
pencils, pastels and tempera paint. Children will draw upon their own
knowledge and class resources to create both realistic and fantastic
insect art in this in-depth, 8-week class. *A $40 materials fee
is due to the instructor on the first day of class. Instructor:

Learn
some clay crafting skills while producing original pieces of art in
this fun and creative class, just in time for the holidays! Come
make your favorite Christmas characters out of clay, for example
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer or Frosty the Snowman! The last
day of class, we will wrap them and have a pizza party. Children
should bring a picture of the character they would like to create.
*A $35 materials fee is due to the instructor on the first day of

Pet
Portraits
Learn
how to draw a portrait of your pet and other animals with charcoal,
using a variety of fundamental drawing techniques and principles.
Drawing from life and photographs, the course includes five
step-by-step lessons and demonstrations. Class size is limited
to eight participants. *A $20 materials fee is due to the instructor
on the first day of class. Instructor: Marvin Plummer is a
local artist specializing in charcoal pet portraits. He has a BFA from
Art Center College of Design and has been a full time artist since
2003. His work is on permanent display at Santa Cruz County Animal
Services and the

Changes to Class Dates & Start Times
Unless you are notified otherwise, all classes will be held during the times and on the dates listed in this brochure. It may occasionally be necessary to change the time and/or date of a class due to school scheduling, instructor illness, or some other unforeseen circumstance. In the case a class time or date must be changed, the instructor will contact you at least one week in advance to notify you.
If a sudden emergency requires a class be cancelled, Parks Department staff will call parents at the number listed on their registration information (please be sure to provide at least one emergency contact phone number, in addition to a work and/or cell phone number). A Parks staff person will go to the class location to ensure children are supervised until a parent or emergency contact person can arrive to pick them up.

Each additional sibling enrolled in same class receive a 15% discount. To receive the sibling discount, one must register via phone, fax, or mail (not available online).
