Junior Lifeguards

The Santa Cruz County Park 's Junior Lifeguard program introduces youth to the fun and rewarding job of protecting and saving lives at the pool.

Each three-week session consists of a variety of activities, including swimming, lifeguard skills, running, calisthenics, team-building games, special guests, and many special activity days. Activity days include an adventure trip to Golfland, introduction to kayaking at the pool, a beach day, and much more!  Leaders also introduce the junior guards to Emergency Response careers such as Firefighting, Lifeguarding or being an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and organize a junior lifeguard competition at the end of each session.

Participants will be divided into two groups, based on age and ability level.  If you are not certain that your child can meet the swim prerequisite, please call Rebecca Hurley at 454-7930 to arrange a swim test before you register.

Program fees include the following: adventure trips; free recreational swim (Tu-Fri, 1:00pm – 3:30pm ) during the session that your child is enrolled in the program; equipment rentals; and a Junior Lifeguard T-shirt.

Prerequisite: swim 25 yards freestyle without stopping; submerge and swim underwater for 10 feet; and tread water for 1 minute.
